The society constitutes a General Assembly, a supreme governing body composed of all members. The General Assembly elects an Executive Committee, which is headed by a President.

The Executive Committee is responsible for the management, strategic planning and implementation of the aims of the EFR. The work of the Executive Committee is co-ordinated by the President, who is assisted in his work by a Vice-President, a Secretary and a Treasurer. The President of the Executive Committee can appoint specific people to be entrusted with certain defined tasks – a working party.

The society is composed of Regular Members, Residents, Associate Members, Supporting Members, Health Staff and Patients/Relatives, who shall devote their research and experience according to the principles of the Society.

Béla Teleky Prof., MD, FRCS

Associate Professor of surgery. From 1993 to date he has been working as head of the colorectal surgical outpatients’ department at Vienna university hospital and obtained teaching qualification for surgery in 1994. Furthermore he is in charge of the postgraduate training for surgery within the Austrian Medical Society. Since October 2003 he has been holding the position as deputy head of the department of general surgery at Vienna University Hospital.

Several national and international memberships such as Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons, International College of Surgeons, International Hepato Pancreato Biliary Association, International Society of University Colon and Rectal Surgeons,
Magyar Sebészty Társaság, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Chirurgie.

Prof. Teleky is the founder and President of the European Federation of colorectal Cancer aiming at providing an international platform of scientific exchange and knowledge in the field of oncological surgery.

Friedrich Herbst Prof., MD

Irene Kührer Ass. Prof., MD

Senior physician at the department of general surgery at Vienna University hospital, consultant physician in internal medicine and oncology.

She is the author of several books on diet and nutrition giving useful recommendations for developing a healthy diet helping to increase the body’s recovery process after chemo- therapy. Any reader will enjoy her practical, real-life approach to incorporating changes.

Judith Karner-Hanusch Prof., MD, FRCS

Associate Professor at the Vienna University Hospital, senior physician at the department of general surgery and in charge of the outpatients’ department of surgical endoscopy of the department of general surgery.

As a founding member of various scientific research groups in the field of colorectal tumor diseases she has ever since been playing a very active role within these research groups.
